Overview
The Multi-Terrain Crossover MTX range of front suspension hybrids is incredibly versatile. Lightweight aluminium frames with stable and comfortable riding positions, broad gear ranges, powerful hydraulic disc brakes and short travel suspension forks mean these bikes can handle almost anything. Rough roads, cycle paths and off-road trails are all in a day’s work for an MTX.
The 8.9 is the ultimate MTX, with a high level specification offering outstanding performance across a huge variety of terrains. Key upgrades to the drivetrain, brakes and fork build on the capability of the 8.8, taking it to the next level.
Using a single chainring, Shimano Deore 1X11 gears offer a wide range of ratios, but without the complexity of a front derailleur to worry about. With only one gear shifter, simply change up or down with one hand to suit the gradient or surface. A narrow-wide tooth profile on the chainring teeth, and a clutch mechanism in the rear derailleur keep the chain taut and on the chainring, even on rough ground.
Shimano MT400 hydraulic disc brakes offer outstanding braking power and modulation, which combine with the grippy and Kevlar puncture protected Schwalbe Tyrago 35mm tyres to keep you in control on all sorts of surfaces. The Suntour NCX-E fork uses an adjustable air spring, a lightweight alloy construction and an option to lock the suspension out for smooth surfaces to give 63mm of highly controlled travel. A thru axle locks the wheel tightly into the fork, increasing stiffness and improving handling precision, whilst also ensuring the disc rotor is perfectly aligned.
Like all the Mutli-Terrain Crossover range, the MTX 8.9 has mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack, making it flexible for year round leisure riding and commuting.
