Overview
With a new C8 Carbon Endurance layup and 12 speed wireless shifting, the SLR 8.9 Disc Di2 adds two technologies previously reserved for our 9 Series bikes into our renowned for value 8 Series package.
Building on the already low weight and aerodynamically efficient SLR 8.9 Disc frame, we've developed a brand new C8 Endurance carbon layup. It not only shaves over 150g from the frame and fork, but also adds a big increase in vibration damping through the frame and fork, making the SLR 8.9 Disc Di2 a surprisingly comfortable place to rack up miles.
By dissipating more of the fatiguing road buzz being passed into the rider's body, muscle fatigue is reduced, enabling greater power output for longer. And we haven't sacrificed any pedalling stiffness in the frame either - power transfer is maintained. The frame uses the same tube profiles developed in CFD and the Wind Tunnel as our 9 Series bikes to keep aerodynamic drag to the minimum. This means going faster for the same effort, what’s not to like?
Shimano’s 105 Di2 groupset offers pro level shifting across a huge range of gears, without big jumps between them thanks to a closer spaced 11-34 tooth 12 speed cassette. With a 50-34 chainset up front, there's more than enough range for super-steep climbs and fast descents alike. Those descents are where the hydraulic disc brakes come into their own, with much greater braking power and control vs a rim braked bike. Tyres are also vitally important for control, and 28mm Vittoria Rubino Pro tyres with Graphene 2.0 compound offer great grip and puncture resistance while rolling quickly too.
CONTACT POINTS:
Working with Chris Boardman, data from hundreds of bike fits and insight from bike fit experts, we have made simple changes to the contact points of the SLR range. Using advanced pressure mapping and real-world testing we’ve shown that the Boardman SLR saddle will provide long-ride comfort for the majority of people. Bar width and crank length are also reduced vs previous bikes to make sure they are suited to the fit needs of real cyclists, not just based on old traditions. These changes also reduce the rider’s frontal area, which has been wind tunnel tested to reduce drag, meaning less effort required for the same speed.
